The age-old question! This is the definition I have settled on, and I'm convinced it works in practice! Particularly if you're results-driven.
Confidence is not a personality trait nor a feeling.
It’s a standard of behaviour even in the face of the unknown.
A willingness to take steps toward your goals even when you feel anxious, scared, embarrassed, etc.
What we do matters more than how we feel.
Sociologists have found that our beliefs about ourselves can be shaped by our family, friends, and media culture. But you are still in the driver's seat of these beliefs and can cultivate your own sense of self-confidence.
This has been extremely empowering for me and meant my choices and actions dictate my results not my feelings. This is the first step to confidence.
Being rooted in a strong sense of who and what you are will then influence your actions! What are those core beliefs and values? Do you know them intimately? Do they guid your day to day decision making? And strong sense of self is like your internal compass and i sear confidence is on the other side of a strong sense of self. So instead of worrying how you look or feel or if your the best on stage or in class. Focus on your core values and whether or not you embody them in your everyday life. This overhaul will do wonders for your sense of confidence! I promise.
